AleSmith Brewing San Diego Pale Ale 394

AleSmith Tony Gwynn Collab San Diego Pale Ale 394

San Diego, California • 5/19/2014 San Diego’s multiple award winning brewery, AleSmith Brewing Company, is set to launch the newest addition to their stellar lineup this baseball season. Collaborating with San Diego’s very own Hall of Famer, Tony Gwynn aka “Mr. Padre”, the AleSmith team has forged a completely new beer defining a modern-day category, the San Diego Pale Ale.

Originally classified as Project 394, AleSmith covertly formulated a completely new recipe with Tony Gwynn’s direct input. Following Tony’s evaluation of the test batches, AleSmith dialed in the recipe resulting in an extremely drinkable 6% ABV Pale Ale with light bitterness and accentuated hoppiness designed to fill the gap between AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale and AleSmith IPA. This San Diego Pale Ale will showcase abundant piney and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from an intense dry-hopping schedule. A balanced malt profile will round out these hoppy flavors with a biscuity finish to enhance drinkability throughout the innings.

The name “394” (.394) references the highest single-season batting average Gwynn set back in 1994. Ready to be released at the June 6th Padres Beerfest, San Diego Pale Ale 394 will reflect the commitment to excellence shared by the legendary Tony Gwynn and the AleSmith team. Peter Zien, AleSmith’s owner and CEO further elaborates on his connection with the Gwynns: “Tony Gwynn and his team chose AleSmith because of our mutual pursuit of perfection. Formulating and brewing a new style with a San Diego baseball legend has been doubly rewarding. Not only have we had the opportunity to meet and work with Tony and his family, but have also created a delicious new beer worthy of the title San Diego Pale Ale 394.”

AleSmith Brewing Company was founded in August 1995 in San Diego, California. AleSmith owner and CEO, Peter Zien, purchased the brewery in 2002 and has spent the last 12 years growing an internationally recognized brand dedicated to hand forged ales and craftsmanship. In 2008, AleSmith was recognized as the Great American Beer Festival® “Small Brewing Company of the Year”. AleSmith currently employs 28 people and will be expanding into a new state of the art brewing facility off of Miramar Road in 2015.
